As part of my work with Snow Brains, I was asked to write a piece of sponsored content on the behalf of Alta Ski Area. The request was to write a piece focused on Alta's commitment to its core values. To kickoff the assignment, I was provided with a project brief as well as brand guidelines highlighting Alta's brand voice. From there, I was given free rein to craft an article to tell their story.
Alta is a skier's only mountain that is infamous for staying true to its roots and resisting the capitalistic path. As a result, I faced the challenge of speaking to a wide range of audiences while also sharing a number of talking points related to Alta's commitment to authenticity. These challenges, coupled with SnowBrain's typical short form articles, created a task in which I was required to share a lot of information in a short amount of content. Ultimately, I achieved this by listing and prioritizing each talking point, and limiting myself to one paragraph for each one. The result was a piece that told Alta's story in a way that fit within SnowBrain's typical article format, and that the client was ultimately pleased with.
When this piece went live, both SnowBrains and Alta Ski Area were excited about my work and the way their story was told. While the responses to this piece were argumentative, I followed through with the approach assigned to me and ultimately learned the importance of considering the reader's perspective when writing pieces. Now when I write sponsored content, I put an extra emphasis on balancing the needs of the client with expectations and perspectives of the readers to ensure that the client's marketing goals are met as best possible.
Snowbrains is a short form blog focusing primarily on sharing interesting ski news and topics, but also catering to the wider outdoor audience.
