As part of my extensive work with SnowBrains, I was asked to write a piece of sponsored content on the behalf of RED Mountain Resort. The request was to write a piece focused on a new real estate venture, The Crescent, and its groundbreaking revolution in the future of slope-side lodging. To kickoff the assignment, I was provided with a project brief as well as brand guidelines highlighting RED's brand voice and mission. From there, I was given free rein to craft an article to tell their story in the hopes of attracting attention to this new development.
RED Mountain Resort is unique in that it remains boldly autonomous amidst a corporate conglomerate. With that in mind, it was important that with this article, I spoke to that fact and focused on their previous accomplishments as a resort and spoke about their continued efforts towards making a name for themselves. These challenges, coupled with SnowBrain's typical short form articles, created a task in which I was required to share a lot of information in a short amount of content. Ultimately, I achieved this by listing and prioritizing each talking point, and limiting myself to one paragraph for each one. The result was a piece that told RED Mountain Resort's story in a way that fit within SnowBrain's typical article format, and that the client was ultimately pleased with.
When this piece went live, both SnowBrains and Mammoth Mountain were excited about my work and the way their story was told. Unfortunately, the only comment left on the piece strongly disagreed with the entire premise of the article. While the direction of the article was always out of my hands, This experience taught me the importance of considering the reader's perspective when writing pieces. Now when I write sponsored content, I put an extra emphasis on balancing the needs of the client with expectations and perspectives of the readers to ensure that the client's marketing goals are met as best possible.
Snowbrains is a short form blog focusing primarily on sharing interesting ski news and topics, but also catering to the wider outdoor audience.
